Our Doctors

Dr. Chris Hummel
I graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. I spent time practicing in Houston, Texas, and the greater bay area in northern California before moving to the greater Phoenix area in 2003.
Since coming to the valley, I have worked in multiple veterinary hospitals within the AZPetVet family of hospitals as a relief veterinarian. I started working as a full-time veterinarian at Goodyear Animal Hospital from July 2005 to September 2007 before transferring to Westbrook Animal Hospital as a partner/veterinarian in 2007. I enjoy all aspects of veterinary medicine, from surgery to medicine in dogs, cats and small mammals, such as guinea pigs and ferrets.
My spouse and I live in northwest Phoenix with our 3 wonderful rescue cats, Kazi, Stache and Cricket. When I am not working, I enjoy kickboxing, walking, hiking, cycling, Tai Chi, yoga, caring for my plumeria collection, and reading.

Dr. Martha Ullman
I grew up in the Northwest Indiana/Chicago area. I graduated from Purdue University in 2009. I first moved to Phoenix for an internship after school but returned to the Midwest to work in several states before ultimately returning to the valley.
My interests in practice include preventative medicine, surgery, diagnostic imaging, and dentistry. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, running, baking, and equestrian sports. I live in the Phoenix area with my husband, our dogs: Elli and Freya, our one-eyed cat: Odin, and our Sulcata tortoise: Tyre.

Dr. Brandy Stewart
I grew up in Hawaii, where I met the love of my life. I attended the University of Hawaii at Mānoa for a bachelor’s and a master’s in animal science. I attended Colorado State University and received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. My love for animals began at a young age with a childhood pet, a kitten named Angel. Angel had Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) And, Boom! My obsession with veterinary medicine began. My many childhood trips to the zoo and later volunteering at one ignited my passion for exotic animal medicine. I love working with exotic animals, but my main passion resides in the feline department.
My husband and I fell in love with Arizona and decided to relocate here! We have a long-haired kitty named Gidget and a small chihuahua mix dog named Lady. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, watching movies, reading, visiting zoos, and exploring the outdoors. I am excited to have joined the AZPetVet team and look forward to meeting you and your furry family.

Dr. Caitlin Johnson
I was born and raised in the Valley of the Sun. I attended the University of Arizona, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Veterinary Science in 2015. Then, I moved to the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, earning my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Ross University in 2019. My senior clinical year was spent at the University of Illinois, where I figured out just how much I dislike winter, so I decided to move back home to Phoenix. I am interested in all aspects of small animal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and pocket pets.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, exploring Arizona, and spending time near the water. While at home, I enjoy watching TV with my two cats JD and Luna.

Dr. Jessica Strautman
I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and completed my undergraduate education at University of Arizona. I then attended University of California, Davis and received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2021. I have special interest in preventative medicine and surgery.
I have two mischievous cats named Mika and Gary, and a leopard gecko named Gus Gus. In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer, running, hiking, and spending time with loved ones. I am thrilled to join the AZPetVet family, and cannot wait to meet you and your animal friends!

Dr. Caitlin Larkin
I grew up in the central valley of California. I graduated from Fresno State in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in animal science with a veterinary focus. I moved to Arizona the following year to attend Midwestern University and received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. During my schooling, I fell in love with Arizona and decided to stay to practice medicine. My interests lie in all aspects of small animal medicine, especially feline medicine and neonatal care.
I have a brother that lives here with me, and a grandmother that lives in Strawberry. My dad lives back in Fresno, California. I have extended family in Arizona, California, and more east in Tennessee and Florida.
My resident pets are Phoebe (BB cat) and Squirrel, the oddest pair of cats and the ones that piqued my interest in feline medicine. My brother's pets include Anchovy (a cat that used to hang around the pizza place I worked at when she was little, so of course, I took her home) and Pickles (a cat I bottle fed). They are also both oddballs—between opening doors and playing fetch, they are probably some of the smartest cats I know. I also enjoy fostering, especially cats, and love bottle feeding foster babies, so my furry family is ever-changing. I have one foster with me currently. She's been with me over a year now, and I fear I may need to adopt her.
In my free time, I love trying new things even if I’m not the best at them. My ever-growing list of hobbies includes sewing, baking, reading, hiking, and gardening.
